Responsible Gaming

Gambling is entertainment with a cost, not a way to make money. This page explains the controls available to you, how to use them, and where to get free confidential help in the UK — today, not eventually.

Need help right now? The National Gambling Helpline is free and open 24 hours a day, every day: 0808 8020 133. Live chat is available at BeGambleAware.org.

Our position

Insider Casino Review is read by adults choosing between licensed casino brands. We take that seriously. We do not publish content aimed at anyone under 18, we do not describe gambling as a solution to financial pressure, and we do not use language suggesting that a win is likely or that skill removes risk. The house edge is permanent and mathematical. Over enough time, the operator wins — that is how the arrangement is designed.

Six rules worth following

  1. Decide the amount before you deposit. Treat it the way you would treat the cost of a concert ticket: spent the moment you hand it over.
  2. Set a deposit limit immediately after registering. It is the only control that caps the money entering the account regardless of what happens next.
  3. Never chase a loss. A larger stake does not correct a previous outcome; each result is independent.
  4. Never gamble with borrowed money. Not a credit card (banned in Great Britain since April 2020), not an overdraft, not a loan, not money from someone else.
  5. Do not gamble to cope. Boredom, stress, grief and loneliness are the worst possible reasons to open an account.
  6. Take breaks. Use session reminders and time-outs before you feel you need them.

The tools every UK-licensed operator must offer

ControlWhat it doesHow fast it applies
Deposit limitCaps how much you can pay in per day, week or monthReductions immediately; increases after a 24-hour cooling-off period
Loss limitCaps net losses over a chosen periodSame 24-hour rule on increases
Session reminderInterrupts you at a set interval with time and net positionImmediately
Time-outLocks the account for 24 hours up to 6 weeksImmediately, and cannot be reversed early
Self-exclusionCloses the account for a minimum of 6 monthsImmediately, and cannot be reversed early
GAMSTOPExcludes you from every Gambling Commission licensed operator at onceWithin 24 hours of registration

Both brands we review support all of the above. AceLucky additionally offers weekly and monthly loss limits and a twelve-month spend history export, which is genuinely useful for reviewing your own behaviour honestly.

Warning signs

  • Gambling with money set aside for rent, bills, food or family.
  • Increasing stakes to feel the same level of interest.
  • Returning specifically to win back what you lost.
  • Hiding the activity, the spend or the time from people close to you.
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not gambling.
  • Continuing even though you are no longer enjoying it.

Recognising one of these is not a failure. It is the point at which the tools above become useful. Apply a time-out first, then talk to one of the organisations below.

Protecting under-18s

It is illegal for anyone under 18 to gamble in Great Britain, and licensed operators must verify age before accepting a deposit. If children have access to your devices, consider filtering software such as Gamban, Net Nanny or CyberPatrol, and never leave an account logged in on a shared device.
